Find the Ideal Place

• If the soil is clayey in nature, add sand/ peat moss/ Coco Coir or well matures organic compost for better drainage.

Watering

• Dahlia doesn’t like soaking wet soil.
• Water the plant 2-3 time a week & try to water the deep, so that the soil till the bottom of your pot gets wet.
• May increase the water cycle depending upon the climate (if it is dry & warm)

Fertilizer

• Fertilize the plant with low nitrogen fertilizer like 5:10:10 or 10:20:20 once a month.
• If using organic compost, apply the one which has less nitrogenous components.
• Don’t over-fertilize as dahlia are very sensitive to it.
• Don’t apply fertilizer late in the season.

Pests and Diseases

• Normally the following pests found on dahlia: Aphids, Powdery Mildew, Mites, Earwigs etc.
• Spray the plant with insecticidal soap to remove pests.
• If the situation is more serious then apply pesticides.

Tips to produce more flowers

• Pinch the very first flower. This will help the plant to grow more & produce more flower buds.
• Prune the plant regularly.
• Cut all the spent flowers & deadheads.
• Cut all the dried & semi-dried leaves and branches.
