Whenever we go to pick up seeds (mostly vegetable seeds) for our garden, we have two options mainly: Desi/Heirloom and Hybrid. We found ourselves in a dilemma that what type of seed we should go for. Let’s discuss the difference between Desi and Hybrid seeds.

Desi/ Heirloom Seeds	Hybrid Seeds
Also known as OP (Open Pollinated), Heirloom, Desi Seeds.	These also have many types, mainly F1, F2, F3 Hybrid (to know the difference, please click here)
These are the seeds that have been growing in a place for years and the seed is used by the farmer for the next sowing. In this way this seed transfers from one generation to another.	Hybrid seeds are those seeds that are produced by cross-pollination of two or more plants. It contains the best Characteristics of both plants. The process of hybridization is highly controlled and specialized.
These seeds can be used not once, but repeatedly in sowing, which are identical to their parent plant.	Every time a new seed has to be sown to take the same kind of produce.

Yields are less than those of hybrid seeds.	Higher yields.
The ability to fight against diseases and insect is relatively less.	Less prone to disease, insects and pest.
More delicious and nutritious.	A lot of the breeding programs for modern hybrids have sacrificed taste and nutrition.
Less expensive.	Relatively expensive.

After knowing the advantages and disadvantages of both kinds of seeds, finally it is up to you to decide that which type of seed is best suited to your needs.
